New Orleans Day 1 Photos
Photos from the first day of my trip to New Orleans are now online. A sample of the set is listed below. You can see the photos either at Flickr or Facebook (assuming we’re friends on FB).
I arrived in New Orleans a little after noon, and after retrieving my bag, took the hotel shuttle to my hotel, the Hotel Modern. The hotel is located on Lee Circle and was very convenient for walking and/or riding the streetcars. Once I was settled in, I rode the Canal Line streetcar up to City Park to go to Hogs for the Cause for some BBQ and music, neither of which disappointed. Shortly after I arrived, I ran into @nolamaven and chatted with her for a bit. It is always nice to finally get to meet Twitter friends in real life. I wandered around, trying different dishes from the various teams. Unfortunately there were simply too many there to actually try more than a few. Everything I sampled was really good, and I only wish I had saved some room for a few more.
After chowing down, I headed over to the stage and watched the Voice of the Wetlands All-Stars perform (along with special guest Dr. John!) and then Trombone Shorty. I left about halfway into Trombone Shorty’s set. He was good, but I didn’t want to get stuck behind that crowd as I made my way out of the park. I discovered, however, that the streetcar only runs once per hour at that time of night. I would up waiting around 45 minutes, but had a nice conversation with my fellow streetcar riders. There were a few locals along with a couple guys from Madison (Go Badgers!).
Not a bad start to the weekend.
