Nearly September
I can’t believe we’re more than halfway through August. I love working at a University, but as we get closer to the start of the new school year, that love can quickly turn to dread. When classes end in May, and you look at the calendar, it seems like you have nothing but time to work on all those summer projects. Then reality sets in at the end of July, and by the time August gets here, you’re in panic mode. Inevitably it all gets done, or at least something close to that. Then you turn around and do it all again the following year. I need a break. Need to say a prayer to the Powerball gods before tonight’s drawing… $210 million would be a nice way to start an early retirement.
Throw a new boss in on top of that, budget reviews, and all the projects left hanging at home, and you can understand why I haven’t been blogging much. As I type this I’m literally surrounded on three sides by receipts, bills, statements, etc. waiting to be entered in Quicken. After entering a month’s worth of credit card receipts, I needed a break, so here I am.
Random bits and pieces:
- Found out recently that some friends are getting a divorce. Completely unexpected and sad to hear.
- Found out recently that some other friends who we haven’t seen in years are going to be in town next month. Completely unexpected and something to look forward to.
- Need to start planning my annual fall road trip with my dad. This year we’re headed to Bowling Greek, KY, to visit the Corvette plant and museum and Mammoth Caves National Park.
- Feasting on Asphalt is back on Food Network for a second season. Alton Brown is the greatest. Thanks to this show we know we’re going to have lunch at the Old Country Store in Lorman MS on our southern road trip next year. Alton said it is the best fried chicken he has had, and it sure looked like good.
Back to work….
