Countdown to Ignite Ep. 6: The One About the Bag

Countdown to Ignite Episode 6It’s here! The episode that answers the most commonly asked question every year about TechEd and now Ignite: What does the conference bag look like? Yes, Rick Claus and Joey Snow have absconded with the conference bag… or bags as is the case this year. Keep reading for my take, but make sure you click over to the Ignite blog for the video and full blog post.

Every year, there were three main questions that everyone asked about TechEd:

  1. Where will the conference be?
  2. Where is the attendee party?
  3. What does the conference bag look like?

We’ve know the conference will be in Chicago for some time now.  We’re still in the dark about the venue for the party (any guesses?).  And now we get our first look at the bags. Yes, you heard me right, bags. The inaugural Ignite conference bag comes in four different accent colors. You can choose blue, yellow, green, or orange accents on the black ballistic fabric bag. As Rick points out in the video, ballistic doesn’t mean you can stop a bullet with the bag, but it does mean that it should be durable.

The bags come with a water bottle (of course), with zippered pockets on the front and a large padded pocket with room for a laptop, tablet, and more. Rick emptied his daily use bag and transferred it all to an Ignite bag to show  just how much you can stuff in there. One tip for the first time attendee, I don’t advise cramming that much stuff in your bag and carry it all week as you roam around McCormick Place. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. One interesting addition this year is an accessory bag. Made of the same ballistic material, the accessory bag is a great place to put those miscellaneous cables and plugs and whatever else you may have to normally gets lost in the bottom of the bag.

The bag does not appear to be a TSA-approved, the kind that unzip to lie flat and give the scanners a clear view of your laptop. This isn’t as a big of a deal if you have TSA PreCheck, but it was a nice feature to have. it’s why I still use my TechEd 2013 bag whenever I travel (it’s actually my daily use bag). Otherwise, the bag looks good.  I’m partial to the blue and orange accent, so I’ll probably pick one of those two. Which you do you like? Are you #IgniteOrange, #IgniteGreen, #IgniteYellow, or #IgniteBlue?

That’s it for this week. Check out the episode below and enjoy this first look at your constant companion for a week in May.

You can watch the show over on Channel 9, but why not just watch it here?

If you haven’t registered yet, head over to the Ignite website and register now. You might need to be creative with your lodging, however, as the conference hotel lists appears to be sold out. You can check out my post with showing hotel availability (as of March 2).
