Collen’s Page

Collen is the Welsh Corgi mix we adopted from the Humane Society on September 29, 2001. We had planned to get a dog after we moved into our house, and that summer we really started looking. Although we hadn’t found much at the various shelters, we kept plugging away, figuring that there must be some little dog that was just perfect for us.

On Tuesday, September 25, 2001, my daily trips to the Humane Society paid off. There in pen 13 was the cutest little dog. He was a Corgi stray that was just as quiet and well-behaved as he could be, despite all the other dogs barking and carrying on. He was scheduled to go in for surgery the following day, and there began a multi-day quest to adopt this little guy. We finally learned he was scheduled to be at an adoption event at a local mall. By this time, everyone at the Humane Society knew we wanted this dog, so they had called and assured us that he would be there. Needless to say everything went well, and we left the mall with our little guy.

He’s a bit thinner than a Welsh Corgi and his legs are taller, but he is definitely part Corgi. We decided that a Welsh dog needed a Welsh name, so we settled on Collen. Believe me, it isn’t easy to find a Welsh name that people can pronounce! He is just the sweetest dog. He loves people (especially kids), most dogs (especially Callie and Winnie his dachsund girlfriends across the street), and hates cats!

You can see pictures of Collen online at Fotki.com and Pbase.com (older albums that haven’t been moved to Fotki yet).
