Gary Gygax 1938-2008

Posted in General @ 11:34 pm Comments Off

Yesterday was a sad day for Wisconsin.  First we learned that Brett Favre was retiring.  Then later we learned that Gary Gygax passed away at the age of 69.  Gary created Dungeons & Dragons, and for that I owe him for fond memories of Saturdays spent playing D&D and other games with friends at St. Peter’s in Kenosha.  It has been many years since I explored a dungeon, battles an orc, or rolled a d20 to save, but every now and then I get out my figures or come across my old Player’s Manual or Monster Manual or DM’s Guide and smile.

I never met Gary, but I did visit The Dungeon in Lake Geneva a few times, and I remember going to Gen Con back when it was held at UW-Parkside in Kenosha.  I used to ride my bike there.  Hard to do that now. For one it would take a long time for me to ride a bike to Indianapolis.

Thanks for everything Gary.  My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
