Bradley Party at Ozzie’s

Posted in General @ 6:05 pm Comments Off

I’m sitting at Ozzie’s waiting for the Bradley game to start. I’m using a new Sprint 6700 to post this. I’m testing it for work, and so loving it! I installed the AKU2 update and it works just like advertised. Direct Push works really well, and I expect that we’re going to see a lot of people bringing Windows Mobile 5 devices to school next semester. Finally Blackberry-like functionality without the Blackberry price.

Braves in the Sweet Sixteen

Billy Packer will want to bookmark these links:

  • Bert Christensen’s Weird and Different Recipes

With all the crow he is going to be eating, now that the MVC has two teams in the Sweet Sixteen, these recipes should give him some variety in his meals.

We were at Ozzie’s at Westport with other Bradley fans, watching the Braves in their convincing win over Pittsburgh. I’m a Washington University alum, so even though we have several national championships in Division III Women’s Volleyball (go Bears!), having a team to follow in a Division I tournament is a new experience.

We’re still waiting for details, but we’ll be at Ozzie’s again on Thursday night for the next game. Go Braves!

Go Bradley Braves!

Posted in General @ 11:53 pm Comments Off

Go Braves! Bradley University advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament tonight with a convincing upset win over Kansas, 77-73. Kristin is a Bradley alum (and currently President of the local alumni chapter) so obviously we were pulling for the Braves.

The last time Bradley played Kansas was in 1950 when Bradley knocked Kansas out in the first round of the tournament. They went on to play in the championship game that year, losing to CCNY. Could history be repeating itself?

Gaelic Storm Concert

Posted in General @ 12:05 am Comments Off

Hmmm…. First post in a month and again it is about a concert at Harrah’s Voodoo Lounge. Tonight Kristin and I went to see Gaelic Storm. I’ve always been a big fan of Irish/Celtic music, and Gaelic Storm first came to my attention after seeing the film Titanic in which the band was cast as the steerage band.

The show was great, and we were treated to two apparent concert “firsts” for the band. Ellery Klein= broke a string on her fiddle. Second, Patrick Murphy= ended a show still sober. At the start of the concert, he asked the bartender to send up some drinks and five beers appeared on stage. A couple minutes later, however, the bartender took them all back, We were told a Harrah’s VP was there and didn’t want the band drinking on stage. The guys made up for their “dry” show, however, by coming down to the floor after the show and joining their fans for drinks.

As an added bonus we ran into our friend Mike McCarthy, sporting a hat and glasses that would make a leprechaun cry. Unfortunately Mike’s better half wasn’t feeling well and couldn’t make the show.
