Mixed Bag in the Primary
The results are coming in for today’s elections. Almost half the votes are in and in the Democratic primary, Claire McCaskill (Governor), Bekki Cook (Lt. Governor), and Nancy Farmer (US Senate) have all declared victory or will shortly.
It is also looking good on Amendment 1, with the attempt to legalize casinos on the White River at Rockaway Beach losing. Do we really need more casinos in Missouri? I don’t think so.
Unfortunately, Amendment 2 is also losing. Amendment 2 changes the Missouri constitution to define marriage to be between a man and a woman. I didn’t think we’d really defeat this measure, but I was optimistic that we’d do better than things are turning out. Sigh… The only saving grace is that as attitudes change and people become more tolerant and accepting of same-sex couples, I believe it is just a matter of time before these types of laws and amendments are reversed… even in Missouri.
