Funky Winkerbean returns to St. Louis

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch recently conducted their annual comics poll to help determine which comics to drop in order to add some new strips. For some unexplained reason, they dropped Funky Winkerbean, a popular strip according to the poll. I complained via email that day and apparently so did many others. Last night I received an email from Jim Hanselman at the Post that said, “Funky returns soon.”
Now if we can just convince them to bring Opus back.

I’m not a huge Funky fan, but if anything had to go, shouldn’t it have been Beetle Bailey? I don’t think BB has been funny or even insightful for at least 10 years, if it ever was. Was World War II humor and sexism really funny after about 1949?
